Movie Kites- Hollywood director formatting English Version

Well known American filmmaker Brett Ratner (RED DRAGON) is editing English version of Bollywood blockbuster KITES to fit in the Western psyche, according to reports.

It may be the first for a Hollywood director formatting a Bollywood movie. Reports suggest that intercultural romance thriller KITES has two versions-one for domestic Indian audience and another English version for international audiences. While the domestic version has been completed, the international version is still being formatted. The two versions were reportedly shot simultaneously in Hindi and English in Las Vegas (Nevada), New Mexico, and Los Angeles (California) in USA.

Kites to release in December?

The latest rumour doing the rounds in the trade circles is that Kites may not release on January 15 next year at all! Instead the movie might hit the screens almost a month before the scheduled date – ie December 18, 2009.

Apparently it is Rakesh Roshan's idea to push for a December release and director Anurag Basu and the film's star Hrithik Roshan have been working overtime on the post-production aspects.

According to a source, "The film is now on the editing table and they are gearing up for a December 18 release. The promos of the movie are also being readied for the release."

It seems Rakesh Roshan is keen that the film's release does not clash with Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots, which releases on December 25.

"Rakesh Roshan also wants to ensure that Kites be the solo release of the week. Hrithik Roshan has not had a release after Jodhaa Akbar and he has completely focused on Kites for the past year. So everyone is keeping their fingers crossed," source

However when contacted Rakesh Roshan he said, "Nothing has been finalised as yet."

Hrithik'sTattooed Sussanne on his wrist

Hrithik Roshan recently went through immense pain to prove to his wife, and the
world, that all is well in their marriage. The actor who was allegedly having an affair with Kites co-star Barbara Mori, recently got his wife Sussanne's name tattooed on his left wrist as a surprise for her.

His tattoo artist Sameer Patange said that Hrithik had been planning the surprise for a while.

He also said that Hrithik "stood quietly and patiently the whole time, and he was excited as a child once it was over."

The tattoo is designed in the Elvish font chosen by the actor himself. Hrithik is flying to London soon to join his wife on a holiday and reveal the (rather painful) surprise.

If you have some thing to say about this tattoo Comment Below.

Hrithik's KITES flying to Hollywood

It seems Rakesh Roshan is developing cold feet over KITES case as the industry is rife with rumors surrounding the marketing of KITES. If rumors are to be believed then Rakesh is in doldrums ever since KITES failed to leave a mark on the international audience at the Cannes Film Festival.

Anurag Basu-KITES has global appeal ?

As per the sources, Roshan senior wanted to give his son Hrithik Roshan an international launch, by making KITES in English as well as Hindi. But he found no takers for KITES at Cannes, as international buyers were not interested in an Indian film. Basically, that's because Cannes is a major market for Italian, Korean and French films.

Not deterred by his canned experience at Cannes, Roshan senior has moved on and is eyeing Hollywood to sell KITES. Now it's being reported that Roshan Sr. has shouldered the responsibility of striking a deal with Hollywood executives, and allotted 20 days from his schedule for this purpose.

With KITES still on the production floor and such rumors afloat, it surely would be very uncomforting for the Roshans to find an overseas market for the Film.

Kites: steamy scenes would be the same in Hindi and english versions

The seeming deadlock over the release of the much-hyped Kites is now over. Producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu have agreed on how different the English and Hindi versions of the film would be.

While the supposed steamy scenes would be the same in both versions, there would be separate voice-overs in Hindi and English, both done by Hrithik Roshan, whose love story the film chronicles in a style that would recall David Lean's Brief Encounter and K Balachander's Ek Dujje Ke Liye.

Director Anurag Basu refutes the report that the steamy scenes in the two versions will be different in Hindi and English. "We can't cheat Hindi audiences. The so-called steamy scenes will be the same in both versions. The visuals will remain unchanged in both. There won't be anything radically different in the two versions because Hrithik and Barbara Mori speak English-Hindi and Spanish, respectively in both English and Hindi."

So what would make the two versions different? "The narrative, the voiceover. Hrithik Roshan will do the voiceover. In the Hindi version Hrithik will do the voiceover in Hindi and in English he'll do it English. That would be the basic difference between the two versions."

Kites: Fooled you, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan walked the ramp at the IIFA

Drunken Friend blurt it out- Roshan's Cooked up the Hrithik-Barbara Love Story

When Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan walked the ramp at the IIFA on Friday night, they looked like a perfect loving couple. And that is exactly what they are, now it turns out, since the ‘Hrithik is close to Mexican hottie Barbara Mori’ rumour was apparently spread by the Roshans themselves to promote their film Kites, as revealed by a source close to the family
The plan was blurted out by this close friend, who was backstage and tipsy
When Hrithik and Sussanne kissed
before going on to the runway, this friend called out, “Hey, don’t do that, it’ll spoil your strategy.” The source let out that all the statements made by the family, including Sussanne’s statement that no one could break her marriage, were calculated to keep people hanging on to every word written about the drama. Multiple mentions of Mori’s name, followed by obvious denials of an affair by Hrithik and other family members, would, of course, keep the film alive in public memory
In fact, another family friend claimed that even the recent split between Kites cast member Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman hints at a publicity gimmick. “They are part of the same strategy. Rakesh Roshan is keen to show that Kangana is single as part of the promotional plan,” says the friend. The Roshans were unavailable for comment
But Adhyayan says, “I’ve never used my relationship to get importance in the media. Now that we have broken up, all sorts of rumours will start.” Planned ‘rumours’ of a split or affair to promote a film or brand is not new to Bollywood. Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan cooked up a story of their split before a brand campaign last year
This was, apparently, Sussanne’s first runway outing and she was nervous. But she did it to support sister Farah, a jewellery designer. “She had to convince me [to walk], but I’m sure we’ll be great,” Hrithik said before the show.

Do comment what do you think about the whole story till now..

Strike over, Kites to release on time

It's official. The stand off between producers and multiplex owners over revenue sharing is finally over.

According to filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt, the breakthrough came late on Friday morning. "Yes, the strike got over at 3am. All the parties agreed to our demand and we all will be releasing films soon.

He refused to give more details.

The meeting that began late Thursday night concluded early Friday morning after multiplex owners agreed to the terms and conditions of the producers.

The first one to give in was Big Cinema who signed on the dotted line. Soon to follow were other multiplex owners like Fame Cinema, Cinemax, Fun Republic, Innox and PVR, who gave their verbal assurance to end the strike.

Asked if the strike was really over, Tushar Dhingra, Chief Operating Officer, BIG Cinemas replies, "Yes, the strike is over."

When further queried whether it was only BIG Cinemas that has agreed to the demands of the producers, Dhingra replied, "All of them."

However, Shravan Shroff of Fame Cinema and Devang Sampat, Senior Vice President of Cinemax did not respond to the calls or smses.

Sources say that they have agreed to the terms and conditions verbally and will soon sign on the dotted line by Saturday.

On April 4 the producers decided to go on a strike after multiplex owners refused to share equal revenue with them. In the last two months the industry has suffered around Rs 60 crore losses as no new films released in the theatres.

The producers had demanded a revenue share of 50:50 ratio from multiplex owners but the latter refused stating they will give 45:55 ratio, and will give 50:50 only if a film is a hit at the box office.

They (multiplex owners) however informed that they would pay 50:50 profit sharing in the first week of the film's release, 42.5 ratio in the second week and 37.5 in the third week.

So, we can expect Kites to release on time i.e. Oct-Nov 2009.

Kites: Barbara, Hrithik teaching each other

It's not just fame that Movie Kites has brought to Mexican actress Barbara Mori. She has also learnt English while shooting for the romantic-action thriller and it was none other than co-star Hrithik Roshan who turned teacher on the sets.

Apparently Barbara and Hrithik made a pact. Hrithik would teach Barbara English and Barbara would teach him Spanish while shooting for the movie.

Barbara has picked up enough to conduct herself coherently with the media in Cannes although apparently she would often turn to Hrithik to get the right word.

Producer of the film Rakesh Roshan said, “Barbara knew only Spanish when she started shooting for 'Kites'. That suited us fine since her character is supposed to understand only Spanish. During shooting she needed to communicate with her co-stars and the crew. She was forced to learn English. Now she speaks just enough to make herself understood”.

Kites is being directed by Anurag Basu and also stars Kangana Ranaut in a pivotal role. The film's shooting is over and it has reached editing table. Rakesh Roshan is hoping for an October release.

Kites:Kangana left out of ‘Kites’ moment at Cannes Film Festival

Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan grabbed the limelight at the Cannes red carpet for upcoming film “Kites” but Kangana Ranaut, who plays a pivotal role in the film, was not invited for the event. Producer Rakesh Roshan has cited a last minute plan as the reason for the miss.

“Kangana was not told to accompany Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik (Roshan) and Anurag Basu although the director is very close to her and in fact, was instrumental in recommending her for the role in ‘Kites’. We believe the team wanted to focus on the Hrithik-Barbara pair to give ‘Kites’ a more international crossover appeal at Cannes,” a source close to Kangana told IANS.

Basu had cast Kangana in films like “Gangster - A Love Story” and “Life In A… Metro”.

Rakesh Roshan, his son Hrithik Roshan and Basu have returned to Mumbai from Cannes while Barbara Mori has gone back to Mexico - all are content with the way the nine-minute trailer of “Kites” has been received at the international jamboree.

But doesn’t it appear strange that the film’s leading lady was left out at such an important event?

When questioned, Rakesh Roshan washed his hands off the matter, saying: “We ourselves were not sure till the last minute who was going or not. Even my brother Rajesh Roshan, who has done the ‘Kites’ music, was left out because of the last-minute flurry. I think our co-producers Big Pictures would be the best people to comment on why Kangana couldn’t go.”

When contacted, a representative of Big Pictures said: “I think Mr. Rakesh Roshan would be able to comment on why Kangana wasn’t at Cannes.”

Now you decide who should comment.
