The million dollar question is, does KITES fly high? Let me hit the nail on the head: The film has some terrific moments and of course, Hrithik Roshan's star power to cast a spell, but it has plenty of low moments. In fact, KITES could've been a cult film, but its writing relies too heavily on clichés and formulaic stuff and that, frankly, throws a spanner. KITES is visually stunning and makes a sweeping impact, but it totters in its writing department.Final word? KITES will meet with diverse reactions, but the one unanimous thing that it will gather in abundance would be the immense praise for this matchless actor called Hrithik Roshan. He alone is worth the price of the ticket and more. Wish I could say that for the film in entirety!

Where's the chemistry? Where's the story? And where's the twist in the tale? Kites could have been that cross-over film that Bollywood has been dreaming about since long. Sadly, it flounders even before it can take off and soar.... So what's holding it down? First and foremost, the film completely lacks a story  and unfolds as an unabashed chase film. Nothing wrong with that, for we have had a number of road movies that have thrilled and chilled us. But for that, there has always been a twist in the tale to provide an edgy feel to the film. Kites, on the other hand, does have Hrithik and Barbara spending the second half of the film as fugitives on the run, but their journey is so predictable, it fills you with a yawn.So what works in Kites? It's the look of the film which carries it forward. Director Anurag Basu may have dipped in the emotional quotient of the film but he does create a visual feel and texture that has an international feel to it. Watch Kites for its kool looks. But don't expect the popcorn to remain crunchy for long.

To put it more politely, though, this manically hyped roam-com is a vast let-down: as redundant as flying those titular kites without manja. How the background score grates with its pump-up-the-volume band baaja.Meaning the ouchcome is hardly a cool-crackling fiesta; it is a misconceived enterprise at best to crisscross over to the international market. Once Bombay-produced cinema prided itself in using Hindustani language. Out here, most of the dialogue is in English, Spanish (subtitled) and gobbledygook. Honestly, you have to be a multi-linguist to know what exactly is going yawn.Be that as it may, you might still ask, but the plotline must have something to proffer. Kaho na story hai? Sorry, if there is one, it’s replete with cheesy coincidences, mind-spinning implausiblities, senseless killings and heisted material from more movies than you can count on your toes and fingers.Bottomline:  Save yourself your multiplex money, fly a kite instead. Much more entertaining that.

Yes, I said experiment. Because while this is pure popcorn, it's not the popcorn you were expecting. Kites moves drastically away from tried and tested Bollywood formulae... and straight into a Hollywood masala template: Attractive yet mismatched people in the midst of mayhem, falling in love against all odds, the kind of thing playing right now on three movie channels.Except, in this version, Matthew McHrithiky is a bit of a crybaby. Yup, it's a standard-issue Hollywood actioner, laced with bucketloads of tears and overwhelmingly high-octane background score. Actiomelodrama? Clearly these two starstruck romantics have eyes that talk louder than their tongues, but we as an audience aren't as blessed, and liable to cry foul. In whatever language we can.

The second half of Kites has way too much of the son who chases his fiancée and her new lover over stunningly stark new Mexico landscapes. There is one particularly weak shoot-out between cops and bounty hunters, which feels like a left over from B-grade American television and an over- stylised climactic shoot-out in the rain, which echoes Sam Mendes’ Road to Perdition.This is a real shame. Kites is sumptuously produced, painstakingly crafted and in its own way, ambitious. The Roshans and Basu are trying to stretch the boundaries of the Bollywood love story.Hrithik Roshan is spectacular. And yet the film doesn’t become more than the sum of its parts because the second half is flat and in places, outright foolish.Still I recommend that you see Kites. It’s far from brilliant or even fully satisfying but it’s easily one of the better Bollywood films I’ve seen this year.

Though the story of ‘Kites’ comes from old school (read: There’s nothing new about this plot), the modern day cinematography, choreography, direction and editing make this one worth a watch. Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori live upto the hype that has been created. Their on-screen chemistry is one to watch out for. Anurag Basu’s direction takes ‘Kites’ to a different level altogether. He has excelled behind the camera, and the neat, crisp editing has complemented the film. ‘Kites’ is worth a watch...

Barbara goes Topless for movie kites

Mexican Hott Bombshell Barbara Mori who stole heart of Hritik Roshan will now steal hearts of millions of her fans in English version of Kites Movie.

The buzz is that Barbara Mori features topless in the English version of Kites movie, and there is also a passionate liplock between the hritik and barbara. Definately a think all you will be jealous of.

These things are missing in the hindi version of the movie.

Kites release in trouble again

Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites just can't keep out of trouble. Two weeks before the release of the Rs 150 crore film, producer Rakesh Roshan faces allegations of copyright infringement. On Monday, a Bihar Civil Court ordered a stay on the film's release after a person named Laxmi Prasad, of Sunbeam Holdings, claimed that Roshan owes him Rs 10 crore, allegedly for the copyright of the action scenes in the film.
Talking to HT City, a baffled Roshan said he's never heard of this man before. “I have no idea who this guy is.
He lives in some village in Bihar and claims that he has the copyright for the action of my film. How is it even possible? The action director of our film is Hollywood-based Spiro Razatos. There is absolutely no truth in this. My legal advisors are looking into the matter and the team is flying to Bihar today (Tuesday) and I hope the matter is resolved soon.“
Rubbishing rumours that Roshan agreed for an out of court settlement and will pay Prasad Rs 5 crore now, Roshan says, “I have never heard from him, I have never met him or spoken to him for any sort of negotiation.“
Asked if the stay order will affect the film's release, Roshan says, “Absolutely not.
The film will definitely release as per schedule.“
When contacted, the spokesperson for distributors Reliance Big Pictures, while acknowledging that there's legal trouble, said, “We cannot comment as the matter is sub-judicate.“
The film has been courting trouble from the start. First, rumours of an affair between Hrithik and Barbara caused problems in the former's marriage with Sussanne Roshan and later its release date was postponed from Diwali 2009 to May 2010 because of post production hassles. Ealier this year, the theatrical promo of the film was leaked on YouTube and two weeks ago, a Mumbai tabloid leaked its climax.

Barbara Mori has inked her way into the Roshan family. The Mexican actress, who is making her Bollywood debut opposite actor Hrithik Roshan in the upcoming film Kites, has got a six-point star tattooed on her arm. Incidentally, Hrithik, his wife Sussanne and dad Rakesh Roshan all flaunt the same tattoo, which is also known as the Solomon's Seal and symbolises the interaction of the divine with the mortal.
“Hrithik and Sussanne got a six-point star tattoo with a red circle in the center on their right forearm. I have no idea why they chose that particular design and it was too personal for me to even ask them,“ tattoo artist Sameer Pantage said.
Interestingly, Barbara had accompanied the couple when they got their tattoos done, but did not get one herself then. “She must have got it done from some place abroad,“ says a source.

Let me tell you about the latest dosti between Sussanne Roshan and Barbara Mori, the Mexican hottie debuts opposite Hrithik Roshan in his forthcoming film, Kites.

Trio was spotted parting at Hype, DJ Aqueel's hotspot at Atria Mall in Worli over the weekend. Seems like Sussane has put aside the reports of Barbara being more than just good friends' with her hubby Duggu, as the two women were chatting and laughing like long lost sahelis(friends). It's another thing that the Roshan couple were glued to each other throughout their time there. So much so that Sussane and Hrithik didn't let go of each other's hand for even a wee bit. Except when a little girl went to Duggu for a photograph.

Filmmakers should come out of comfort zones: Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan, who will be seen sporting a new look in his forthcoming release 'Kites', has never hesitated from experimenting in his 10 years in the industry. He says leaving the safety zone and trying something different is the need of the hour.

' 'Kites' is a very honest film. That was the brief that my father and Anurag Basu gave to the entire team while making 'Kites'. We do not want to be within the safety zone influenced by manipulative commercial thinking,' Hrithik, looking his best in a red and white check shirt and blue jeans, told IANS in an interview.

'Nothing in the film - no dialogues or no moments that try to provoke claps, tears or laughter. It's a very simple straightforward love story, something that would happen in real life and following that thread whatever fell into place has made the film what it is,' said the actor.

The 36-year-old, who has done a range of movies - from sci-fi to superhero, from historical to romantic sagas - feels filmmakers should try to come out of their comfort zones and make films from their heart.

'It's time to let go of all our safety nets and be out there and tell a story through our hearts and not bother who is listening. We should make films with a thought as if no one is there to judge us. Like this we will produce better and more honest films,' he said.

'Kites', a film about an Indian man's affair with a Latin woman and their predicament as they don't understand each other's language, is being made in Hindi and English. The English version of 'Kites' has been presented and reworked by well-known Hollywood director Brett Ratner.

Produced by Hrithik's father and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, the film will be distributed and marketed by Reliance BIG Pictures.

Directed by Anurag Basu, the movie also stars Mexican actress Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut. It has been shot in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Santa Fe and will release May 21 in over 60 countries.

Hrithik, last seen in Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Jodhaa Akbar', worked on 'Kites' for almost two-and-a-half years. The actor says he is incapable of multi-tasking and believes in doing one thing at a time and giving it his best.

'I can't multi-task. When I'm doing one film, I go completely into it and give my heart and soul to it. I got this inspiration from the Tinkle comic books that I used to read as a child.

'It used to advocate that one should stick to one thing and give one's best to that instead of putting your hand in everything,' said Hrithik, who was at the Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM studio in the capital to promote his film.

Hrithik met with a couple of accidents while shooting the movie - he hurt his knees while doing a dangerous car stunt in Las Vegas and later injured his arm while shooting in Filmistan Studio in Mumbai.

When asked what kind of audience reaction he expected after putting in so much effort, Hrithik said: 'I hope they like the film. Audience reaction is my access point to growth. They have loved me for 10 years and I feel truly blessed.'

The actor also broke his silence on the controversy that surrounded the film regarding an alleged link-up between him and Barbara. 'Certain sections of the media had tried to instigate and provoke, but the truth always comes out. So it was just a matter of time,' he said.

He also said Barbara would arrive in India April 16 and stay in the country for a month.

No songs in KITES for foreign audience

Rush Hour director Brett Ratner was so taken in by Hrithik Roshan's upcoming film Kites that he offered his services to make the film click in the US.

"I was introduced to Ratner in Los Angeles. We got talking about films and I showed him the English version of Kites," Rakesh Roshan, the film's producer, told HT City. "Ratner said it's a good film with the ability to cross over only if it is presented keeping in mind the American sensibilities. He offered to work on it."

A month later, Roshan returned to LA to discover that Ratner had chopped the songs from the film, and also reduced its length from 118 to 90 minutes. "His editing upped the film's intensity for the US market," Roshan said.

Also starring Kangna Ranaut and Mexican actress Barbara Mori, the film's Hindi and English versions will release simultaneously in India and the US on May 21.
Ratner reportedly told a US daily, "I'm not saying that Kites will be the hit that Rush Hour was, but I felt it had the potential to cross over."

Hrithik working on New Look for Guzaarish

Actor Hrithik Roshan gave up his usual diet of salads and veggies and binged on bhajiyas and vada paav for six months to prepare for his role as a paraplegic in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's new film Guzaarish. The actor put on 8 kilos to go from 70 to 78 kilos, and his waist size went from 30 to 34 inches after gorging on snacks and fast food from Mumbai streets.

Hrithik is being trained by celebrity trainer Satyajit Chaurasiya, who gave actor Aamir Khan his famous eight pack abs for Ghajini.
Chaurasiya says Hrithik's diet was drastically altered: "I asked him to have the meal provided on the set, which is very oily. If he felt hungry, he was asked to eat vada paav."

Bhansali contributed by ordering greasy samosas and buttered popcorn on the sets.

Chaurasiya says, "He ate what he found tasty."

Now Hrithik is back to losing weight for the last schedule of the film, which will last two weeks. "He is training for 45 minutes every day, doing weight training and cardio," says Chaurasiya.
The actor is back to eating egg whites and salads.
