After years of sending out its prettiest women on the Cannes red carpet, Bollywood now plans to drum up big business at the world’s most glamor soaked film fest.
After Kites Forthcoming films like Kambakkht Ishq, Aladin, and What’s Your Rashee? are among the most prominent ones that will be showcased at the Cannes Film Market when the fest begins today.
Eros is promoting producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakkht Ishq, starring Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar along with Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards; Saif Ali Khan’s first home production Love Aajkal; and the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Aladin. All the three films are Eros co-productions and the company is distributing them worldwide.
UTV Motion Pictures will use the Cannes opportunity to unveil its slew of films for 2009-10 to international distributors. The biggest of this lot is What’s Your Rashee?, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker with Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja in the lead. The film is a romantic comedy.
Other major films to be showcased at the Cannes Film Market include Kaminey, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, starring Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapur; Rajneeti, directed by Prakash Jha, starring Katrina Kaif; and Wake up Sid, directed by Ayan Mukherjee, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma. Global markets will be especially important for Bollywood in view of the multiplex strike in India.
